Draftkings has finally figured out that they need to price the superstars ahead of the scrubs, bravo for that. This slate represents the first real attempt by Draftkings to adjust prices based on player skill levels, but there is still too much of an emphasis on a team’s odds of winning rather than individual potential. We will all need to take a closer look at balancing values and utilizing the captain’s role to our advantage.
Draftkings’ scoring follows the chart shown below, with a focus on K/D and clutch plays. Rosters are set with a Captain position who receives 1.5x his points at 1.5x his salary, but beyond that it is positionless. This is important to understand because CS teams follow a composition of different roles such as IGL (In game leader), entry fragger, support, etc. With Draftkings making no distinction between players, it is left to you to decide which roles are most important within this scoring system and to take advantage of that. For several teams for example, their IGL is not often going to score highly as they may be less skilled at the game but are valuable in ways that Draftkings doesn’t record. With that in mind, I will jump into a quick look at key players, their key stats, and how their perceived performance should fair in accordance with their salary.
|Statistic||Fantasy Points*Players drafted as Captain earn 1.5x fantasy point values|
|Entry Kill (First Kill of the round)||+0.5 Pts|
|1v2 Clutch||+1 Pt|
|1v3 Clutch||+2 Pts|
|1v4 Clutch||+3 Pts|
|1v5 Clutch||+5 Pts|
|Quad Kill||+3 Pts|
|Game Length adjustment||Adjustment for 30 max rounds (A players score gets multiplied by 30 and divided by number of rounds played)|
Our top plays are designed to show the most playable options on each team, factoring in performance and price. The top 2 plays on each team will be in our player pool and the third tier top plays are people we will sprinkle in a bit along with the core group. All of the statistics shown are for the last 3 months to see who has been performing well recently while still keeping a significant sample size. Good luck to everyone and we are always looking for feedback on how to improve the readability of our content!
FaZe V Virtus.Pro (8:25 AM EST) FaZe -417 / VP +274
This is the first day that FaZe’s pricing accurately reflects the players’ values. We should see a large reduction in ownership as a result, but there are still a lot of big names here that players will flock to. Rain has not been playing effectively recently and broky’s inconsistency makes him a risky play. Coldzera is a solid player at this price but by no means the almost must-play he has been.
Niko is the easy favorite here but with some risk at his new, higher price. He is likely to be the highest scorer on this slate, but he can break a great lineup if he struggles. Rostering Niko at the captain position may strangle your salary cap today but we’ll find him on a lot of our rosters in a flex position.
Top Plays: Niko, coldzera
This is VP’s first appearance in a month and are underdogs against FAZE. Qikert is the most consistent performer on the roster and priced very well for his skill set. Jame is the bigger name and should see some ownership and he and buster are both playable if you want to see them try to topple FAZE.
On most lineups, we will feature qikert and fade the rest of this roster but there is potential for some interesting scores at depressed prices.
Top plays: qikert, Jame, buster
Swole Patrol V Evil Geniuses (12 PM EST) S +283 / EG -435
Swole Patrol has had little price adjustments, leaving freakazoid as their most expensive player with little reason. Cooper- has been doing his best s1mple impression to carry the load recently and he remains priced under his ability. Zellsis is another perplexing pricing mistake and one of the lower priced options on the slate entirely. Although not a top scoring option, he can give roster flexibility to a number of lineups where you go for the top players on the slate.
Freakazoid is a meme player who can be ignored, along with the other players.
Top plays: Cooper-, Zellsis
Evil Geniuses are large favorites here and a 2-0 sweep can give their top players a large adjustment if they strike often and early. Brehze and CeRq are both dependable options to put up big numbers and are fairly safe players with high floors and potential to be a top score as well. When comparing the two, it’s a tough call but you might as well save the salary and lock in CeRq over Brehze but a 2-man stack of both will find its way into a bunch of our lineups.
The rest of EG has problems finding consistency and at exaggerated prices they should be overlooked for the most part.
Top plays: CeRq, Brehze
MIBR V FURIA (4 PM EST) MIBR +129 / FUR -175
MIBR is a team that often shows great play across a number of their players but fer is the darling of the fantasy options here. He can usually be found at the top of the scoreboard for every series with remarkable consistency and his price adequately reflects that trait. He is one of our favorite plays of the day.
FalleN and kNgV are both great secondary options and we will likely take turns pairing them with fer on some lineups but if you look towards MIBR, fer comes ferst :).
Top plays: fer, FalleN, kNgV
FUR represents the best team for value plays on this slate, as their pricing was locked in before yesterday’s match ended and was not adjusted accordingly. After a big win over Liquid, KSCERATO showed an ability to lead a team and make a massive impact on the scoreboard. Look for him to be one of the highest owned players on the slate at an absurd price. 100% ownership is a legit possibility and he will be in the captain spot on many lineups.
HEN1 also played a great game but has not been in great form prior to this showing. Yuurih had been carrying much of the load and could be an interesting value play at a low ownership if he rounds back into form.
Top plays: KSCERATO, yuurih, HEN1
