4.5.20 LOL LCK/LPL Slate

Yesterday’s matchups might not have been as one sided as those on Thursday, but there were still some surprises. SB proved to have the advantage over HLE as expected, but both GenG and KT fell flat. While these two teams had by no means a guaranteed win (there is no such thing in this game cough cough match fixing) it was surprising to see the two favorites lose. Watching GenG in Game 1 especially was almost painful. GenG’s decision to catch Pyosik’s nocturne in the bottom jungle could have been fruitful, but they gave up and tried to run from the rest of DRX collapsing on them. This fight ultimately gave Zoe a quadra kill, making Chovy a fantastic pick.

KT fought a bit harder, but their loss against APK speaks a bit more to APK’s strength. Their victory against Afreeca Freecs didn’t exactly convince me, but the power of Flawless, HybriD and Secret proved to be formidable. Ikssu is still a worthwhile pick, but if he continues to favor picks like Ornn he won’t be the ideal choice for top lane.

But more on this when we get into APK v Griffin for tomorrow. For now, keep in mind the LPL is back in today’s slate with some very interesting matchups, so your roster can once again include some fantastic Chinese players. Let’s see what awaits us for this slate.

Update on yesterday’s statistics issue: LCK stats have been updated, so the numbers provided in the charts will fully reflect each team’s current statistics throughout the Spring Split. LPL seems to be one day behind, which won’t make much of an impact. If the games that weren’t on the slate yesterday are relevant, I’ll be sure to mention them.

Here we have two teams not yet seen in a Draftkings slate since we started this website. This matchup honestly doesn’t look very special, with JDG most likely taking the victory here. Even if it’s close, chances are the teams and players won’t net you as many points as other matchups.

JD are the favorites with their mid and bot lanes doing well during victories, but Kanavi stands out amongst other junglers. His record has been pretty solid and he plays a lot of damage dealing junglers like Olaf, Lee Sin, Sylas, and Elise. Despite what I said about the teams in general, this could be an excellent pickup amongst a slate with assist junglers. In addition, Yagao’s Leblanc looks insane, but if it’s banned then he may not be the best pick. Still, could be worth a shot. Zoom has only played 4 games, explaining his 21 KDA, but maybe he can keep that going against LNG.

DWG have been looking great recently with their games against AF and HLE, but those teams aren’t on the same level as T1. While I am a personal fan of DWG, I don’t see them standing up to T1’s dominance; they are 26/10 for a reason, even if Faker isn’t the powerhouse he used to be. To clarify, Faker is still an incredible player, but he isn’t always the most reliable fantasy choice. His best showings lately have been on Azir, and it’s not as if DWG consider their bans based on fantasy points, but it is possible they don’t want to grapple with that particular late game champion.

Faker67%5.58.9
Teddy75%7.511

As usual, Teddy is a safer option than Faker when it comes to securing points in a damage dealing role.  As for the other roles, Canna isn’t a bad pick at $6800. Like most tops, he doesn’t always have the highest kill count, but his games show consistently great showings even in the defeats.  If we see Ellim tomorrow, it’s important to understand his high KDA and KP% come from the number of games he’s played. With 7 games under his belt this split, only 1 resulted in a loss, meaning that number isn’t exactly on par with the other junglers in the LCK. Still, T1 is definitely a different animal than AF or HLE, so Ellim could very well use this series to pad his stats even further.

DWG’s Ghost is in a similar spot with 7 games played and only 1 defeat, but given the threat T1 poses, it would be shocking if Ghost can pull through with 2 more victories after today. Given that, there have been some insane upsets recently, so if you’re willing to bet on the underdog then the mid and bot lanes for DWG could yield excellent results.

BLG’s most recent victories come from their matchup against WE a week ago, and given WE’s performance lately, I’m not so sure that’s a huge victory for EDG’s opponent tomorrow. While FoFo manages to perform through victory and defeat, jinjiao tends to fall apart when the game doesn’t go their way. Ultimately, EDG’s bot lane seems stronger, although what I last wrote about EDG is true as well: their kills tend to be more spread out. Scout had a decent showing in Game 1 of their match versus DMO, while Aodi’s Sett did well in Game 2. Aodi might be a good choice in this matchup if EDG decides to play around him and give him a damage dealer, although I wouldn’t make him Captain.

I covered some of the matchups above in my team analysis, such as focus on Aodi and Hope, but I will mention FoFo’s potential. If he can give Scout a difficult time in lane and prove to be a threat with assistance from Meteor, EDG could be in trouble. Even if this isn’t the case, FoFo is a decent pick if you don’t like the other mid laners offered in this slate, since as I mentioned above he tends to do well win or lose, kind of like solo queue sometimes. As for jungle, this has been one of the more difficult roles to anticipate. I’ll talk about this more in my LEC/LCS article later tonight, but jungle was one of the best roles to have for fantasy points in the Fnatic and Origen matchup. I suppose after the mess that was G2 versus Mad Lions I should have been ready for anything, but that was still a shocking development. I wouldn’t readily trust Meteor to have a similar impact, and junjia has had more of a supporting role, so maybe it’s best to look elsewhere for jungle.

It would seem I’ve been wrong about APK twice now, making this matchup a bit easier for me to call. In matchups against AF and KT I’ve underestimated the potential of HyBrid, and Cover certainly did well recently. Against a team like Griffin,  it should be easy for APK to take the game. Or maybe I’m cursed and the opposite of what I predict will happen whenever APK is concerned. That would be pretty cool seeing as that’s free points for you guys!

Throughout APK’s victories, HyBrid has been the one to deliver. While I mentioned Ikssu as another strongpoint for APK, Flawless had an outstanding performance against KT, especially on Jarvan IV. Ikssu has had very high assist counts throughout the games APK have won recently, but with Griffin’s top laners not being the strongest, they might have Ikssu play a more aggressive role top. Coming off of their latest victories is also sure to make APK confident, so some cheeky team compositions might be in the works. As for Griffin, Viper does well whenever he wins, the problem being they don’t really win all that often.

Now this should be an interesting game. iG are one of the best teams in the LPL at the moment, but after RNG beat eStar 2-0, literally anything could happen. I’ll do my best to break this matchup down, but it’s definitely a risky one. As far as team points are concerned, if you think RNG will carry their momentum from being eStar forward, then they are a fantastic team pick at only $4400.

Southwind68.3%4.81.2

Normally Puff and Southwind would be an easy bot lane to choose, but if RNG keeps things up they could be an expensive waste of time. If you are a fan of iG regardless, their bot lane plus jungle are the strongest points. RooKie isn’t very concrete when it comes to high kill counts, as his 2.9 KDA reinforces, and TheShy has never been very kill heavy throughout the split. However, it would be premature to say Langx will make short work of TheShy. We might be looking for higher kill counts, but as I’ve mentioned before, this isn’t NA solo queue. I doubt TheShy will be a worthwhile pick, but I would be shocked if he got destroyed by Langx. If things go well for RNG, then XLB, xiaohu, and Betty would be ideal choices. This game is definitely up in the air, but it has incredible potential for points, and based on RNG’s latest performances, I’m ultimately inclined to give them the edge.

Here we have two teams that have been rather disappointing lately. Afreeca Freecs lost pretty hard against APK and DWG recently, while HLE have had similar issues against DWG and SB. Out of the two, AF is the more likely choice. AF at least put up a fight in a number of their lost games, managing to make them closer than some of the matches we’ve seen so far. HLE just seemed to fall apart in their games, and they definitely have some weaker players.

Although adc is the most reliable role for kills, I would suggest steering clear of this matchup. It’s entirely possible SS (if he is played) will have some great showings if AF comes to play, but there are better matchups elsewhere in the slate. SS only has 4 games played, and his best match was against Griffin where he went 5/1/2.  Even if it’s Mystic, there’s definitely better bot lanes to go for. Vsta is a similar story, except I doubt HLE’s ability to stand up to AF regardless. Kiin tends to have some exciting matchups, and against CuVee he could stand out.
