4.8.20 LOL LPL/LCK Slate

Well, at this point eStar is looking like a lost cause. While there’s plenty to say about their performance, JD’s Kanavi is looking more and more like a phenomenal jungle pick. BLG ended up taking the series against DMO in a 2-1 score, so that went about as expected, and FPX dominated LNG. It’s a shame about ES, but now we know not to trust them against any team other than V5… although who knows.

With the LCK back, we’re down to 5 matchups in this slate as only 2 teams are playing in the LCK. Let’s keep this short and get right into it.

While RW was expected to lose against TES, VG’s loss to OMG was somewhat surprising. The OMG and VG matchup wasn’t exactly one-sided, but it did look like VG had the stronger lineup. Considering VG’s scores in the three games, their weakness appeared to be on a team level, generally getting out rotated, allowing OMG to pick up a number of free kills and objectives. At the end of the day, VG is likely to have the edge overall in this matchup, but RW’s high kill and death count per game is VERY enticing. It wouldn’t be surprising if RW did well on the scoreboard, and it’s entirely possible they could take the series despite VG’s edge.

Haro’s performance was great throughout, especially during Game 1 on Graves. RW lost that game, but Haro ended it with a 7/1 score despite the loss. Against a team that isn’t as likely to defeat them, Haro could play a huge role in RW’s chances this series. Forge is the more ideal mid laner, while bot could go either way. This could end up being a very close series, with certain players to prioritize on each team.

After their 2-0 victory against T1, DWG are looking very good. The first game of that matchup didn’t amount to many kills, but the second saw ShowMaker leading the scoreboard while the bot lane used Senna/InsertTankHere to maintain control and shut down the enemy adc. Given their performance, DWG are the definite favorites, even after Griffin’s victory against APK.

As mentioned above, ShowMaker managed to perform well on Corki in Game 2. Between him and Ghost/BeryL, you could rack up a lot of points if DWG manages to farm GRF. Nuguri has had some decent performances as well, although a tankier top lane is looking likely, especially if they don’t run the Senna/InsertTankHere strategy once more. While that matchup gave them the edge in their matches against T1, it likely won’t be needed for DWG to handle GRF. If you do like GRF’s chances, then focus on Tarzan and bot.

DWG Top Picks: ShowMaker, Ghost, BeryL GRF Top Picks: Tarzan, Viper

Given Suning’s latest performance was against V5, there’s not much to look into. Given the way they played in Game 2, they were likely toying with V5’s roster and having fun, leading to a higher kill count on V5’s adc. They shouldn’t be counted out immediately, as OMG’s latest win against VG was rather close at times, making this a somewhat closer series. Neither team has proven to be incredibly strong, so looking at the base team stats would give SN the advantage.

Neither top lane seems to be very influential as far as kills go, although SN seem to have better stats on the damage dealers. Other than that, the general mid/adc/support for SNis the strategy here. H4cker and Curse are worth consideration for SN, as Curse did have some great showings against VG and the top/jungle duo could prove to be deadly once more.. Despite OMG’s recent victory, SN do look really good here, so it will be interesting to see how icon and SmLz stand up to their opponents.

SN Top Picks: Angel, huanfeng, SwordArt OMG Top Picks: Curse, H4cker, SmLz

APK’s recent tear met an untimely end at the hands of… wait for it… Griffin. Given this, it’s hard to advocate for them over GenG. Honestly it would be difficult to do so in the first place, but hey, we’ll take another reason. GenG’s recent loss was to DragonX, which isn’t the most unrealistic matchup in the world given how strong DragonX have been this split.

APK’s strength has been manifested through Flawless, Cover, and HyBrid as of late. Still, they had positioning issues against Griffin, and if those haven’t been properly addressed over the small break LCK had, this will be a stomp. If they did work it out, those players could put up a fight, but given the power of GenG’s lineup it’s difficult to root for them. Chances are Cover won’t be able to go off on Zoe like Chovy did in the DragonX game, which was a huge issue for GenG, so the GenG roster does look very good.

Given WE’s performances recently, this is looking like a TES victory here. However, if there was ever a time to come alive, now would be it. Still, after losing to BLG and then LGD, it’s hard to have faith in WE. This, along with the incredibly close kills and deaths per game, are likely to make this matchup unpredictable.

We don’t normally start with supports, but Qiuqiu’s assist potential is just so  high in the games he wins. If WE do continue to crumble, Qiuqiu along with Knight are fantastic picks. However, as always, the players on We are still formidable under the right circumstances, so don’t assume TES have a huge skill gap. The scoring here could be very high on each team, so make sure to prioritize the mid, adc, and support roles of whichever team you favor. WE have had a bit of a break, but TES have some nice momentum going and could prove to be a real threat.
TES Top Picks:  Karsa, Knight, Photic, Qiuqiu WE Top Picks: beishang, Teacherma, Jiumeng, Missing
