4.10.20 LOL LPL/LCK Slate

Every single matchup yesterday ended in a 2-0, something we don’t see everyday. Most victories made sense, although LGD beating RNG was slightly unexpected. The real exciting matchup, however, was JDG v iG, with JDG proving to the world just how formidable they are. Kanavi, YaGao and LokeN were the stars on the scoreboard in both games, although LvMao racked up enough assists on Bard and Thresh to make him an excellent choice. EDG’s Hope ended up with the highest kill count, sitting at 10, which isn’t exactly the highest we’ve seen. Let’s see if this upcoming slate will offer some more kill heavy games.

Really not much to say here. DMO isn’t the strongest team, but they’ve had their moments. It’s now or never for V5. Quick note about this matchup: V5’s K+D/Game is higher due to their incredible number of deaths. So don’t let that fool you.

Xiaopeng and xiye stood out with many kills in their victory against BLG, but considering V5, GALA is likely to join in on the fun. Top could always participate, but in a series that should basically be a free win, you want to prioritize the heavy hitters in the other lanes. Their salaries are sure to be high, so plan well. If you had to pick someone on V5, Y4 had quite a few kills in Game 2 against Suning, but that was mostly due to SN trolling.

DRX(-217) V DWG(+163)  (4 AM EST)

After their 0-2 loss to Griffin, it seems unlikely DWG can stand up to DragonX, one of the strongest teams in the LCK. DRX managed to dominate KT and GenG recently, and have been on fire recently. Even without the recent matches, DRX would look good going into this. They do have a smaller K+D/G, but many of the top LCK teams share that. As we’ve mentioned in previous articles, LPL is usually where the higher individual kills can be found.

Deft is generally a solid pick, but a fed Zoe is a terrifying thing to behold. Chovy absolutely demolished GenG when he picked that, so it wouldn’t be all that surprising if we saw it again. If DWG does ban it, as it is Chovy’s most played champion, Chovy still has other picks that can propel him to the top. Pyosik is a fantastic jungler as well, so these would all be great picks. Once again, the jungle/mid/adc focus is present in a matchup where one team is predicted to do very well.

DRX Top Picks: Pyosik, Chovy, Deft DWG Top Picks: Nuguri, Ghost

VG’s most recent loss came at the hands of Haro, who ruined their day with his Elise jungle. Considering FPX is the stronger team, VG are going to have their work cut out for them. It’s not as far-fetched as if it were V5 playing FPX, but a lot of Haro’s kills came from VG constantly overextending or taking poor fights. Unless they’ve figured things out over this short amount of time, FPX could pick up where RW left off.

Doinb has been known to play conventional top lane champions in the past like Renekton and Kled against OMG, but his skill on mages is not to be underestimated. While he obviously isn’t guaranteed to get every kill, he does pick up the kills more often than many other mid laners. With Tian’s assistance, Doinb is sure to do well against this lineup. Khan is a potentially good pick as well, especially if you need a solid top. As for VG, Aix and Forge are generally good picks if they do well, but if FPX does roll over them then it could be disastrous for your lineup.

WE did manage to redeem themselves by defeating TES, but they had a lot of time to prepare. Given Afreeca Freecs’ similar comeback yesterday, it seems the long breaks are what teams need to bounce back. Now TES find themselves against BLG, which might not be as close as the other three matchups. TES does look stronger, but given their recent defeat, it’s possible BLG could surprise us.

Photic hasn’t always been the biggest presence on TES, especially during the WE series. Knight is a bit more reliable, so he could be a decent mid pick, but you might be better served avoiding the typical jungle/mid/adc route for this matchup. FoFo’s recent victories came in part from the Galio pick, a fairly heavy assist champion. There’s no guarantee he’ll do that again, as his two Galio games were recently against DMO, but it might not be the worst idea against Knight. His Zoe never seemed to be on the same caliber as some of the other mid laners already discussed in this slate, so if you want to focus BLG, look at bot lane, although it might be a waste overall.

TES Top Picks: Karsa, Knight, Qiuqiu BLG Top Picks: jinjiao, XinMo

T1 managed to take 2 games from SB, but they didn’t exactly blow up the scoreboard in doing so. Their games usually focus more on objectives, as LCK does compared to LPL, but with KT in the mix things could end differently. During their last matchup a while ago, T1 won 2-0 but kept relatively low scores. With KT’s recent losses, it would be a bit surprisng for them to overtake T1, but betting on the players seems too risky, especially with the other lineups in this slate.

If you do decide to choose players from this matchup (and it’s not the worst idea; it just won’t be assured kills on either side,) then Canna and Ellim would be great choices. Canna especially stands out as a great top laner in a matchup he will likely win, so he might serve as a great individual pick. As for the rest, Aiming will only do really well if his team can pull through, and even then it’s uncertain. What does help in these games is that the supports can often- not always but often- be reliable for some nice assists if they are on the winning team. This would most likely mean Effort, although if the focus lies in the upper half of the map then you might want to look elsewhere.

T1 Top Picks: Canna, Ellim, Effort KT Top Picks: Aiming, TusiN
