4.17.20 LOL LPL Slate

After what just happened with eStar and TES, eStar is starting to look worse and worse. You can hear more about it in our 5 minute rewind podcast, but it was disappointing to say the least. The rest of the matches weren’t too surprising, but considering how eStar dominates the scoreboard when they do well, it’s a shame. They also had the most expensive players of the slate, so keep that in mind. Making a stacked team in a one-sided slate is difficult enough without one of the teams falling apart.

At any rate, we’re back to the LPL for one more day, then it’s time for the playoffs. Unlike LCS or LEC, these playoff games start out as best of 3s, so the games won’t be too different in format.

WE haven’t been the most consistent team, but considering who they are playing, their chances are looking good. It’s for this reason the players are the most expensive across the board, so you’ll have to pick a few WE players in order to manage. Of course, an upset is always possible, so consider carefully just how much you want to invest in them. LNG is the weakest team they have fought in a while, but it may not be a complete stomp.

Morgan and beishang are consistently high on the assists in games won against most teams. There’s nothing saying they won’t get the kills this time, but if you’re uncertain about Teacherma or Jiumeng getting all the kills and want to save money, one of these players might be a good option. On the other hand, Jiumeng has had some really great games against weaker teams, even when losing the series to LGD. LNG would be breaking a huge loss streak if they were to take down WE here, so the safest bets would be Maple, Light, and Duan. If LNG does win, these players would have the highest potential to get kills throughout the game, but it would still be risky since the chances of LNG destroying WE in these matchups is too low.

JDG(-556) V DMO(+360)  (5 AM EST)

Despite DMO’s recent success, they have quite the hurdle to overcome in JDG. JDG have won their last 5 series, including against eStar (although that is starting to mean less and less) and iG. It would be interesting if DMO could stop them in their tracks, but this seems like one of the more one-sided matchups this slate.

GALA64%49.5
Mark62.8%2.71

Zoom is currently 12/0 for the split in games, with 4 games having been played in January and 8 recently in April. This helps explain why his KDA is so insane, but bear in mind most of that is from assists. That doesn’t necessarily make him a horrible pick, but even when playing champions like Sett or Mordekaiser, he is not the superstar. Part of that is likely because Kanavi is just insane. Sitting just $200 away from the highest salary, Kanavi has had a great record in the jungle and is likely to dominate the field once more. As for the others, it’s worth noting that both Yagao and LokeN got the same champion for multiple games in a row; Yagao played Azir for 4 games while LokeN had Kalista for 5. They played these champions during the iG matchup and won both games, so odds are DMO won’t let both of them through. This could be a bit worrisome for these two players as far as kills are concerned, so prioritizing Kanavi and Zoom might be the safer bet if you prefer other mids or adcs in this slate.

JDG Top Picks: Zoom, Kanavi, LokeN DMO Top Picks: Xiaopeng, GALA, Mark

EDG(+173) V iG(-233)  (6:30 AM EST)

iG have normally been a powerhouse, but their matchups against the stronger teams are by no means assured victories. Sitting at 22/14 for the split, EDG definitely qualifies as one of those teams, so this should be a fun one. This might be difficult to determine, but the potential for high kills is present in this matchup and choosing the right team could mean great things.

Leyan59.6%3.15.8
RooKie66.6%3.37.5
Puff60.3%4.19.6
Southwind65.7%4.41.2

Jiejie stands out with his disgustingly good KDA, but similar to JDG’s Zoom, his lack of games this split inflates his numbers. Also bear in mind his worst games were against FPX, one of the other stronger teams in the LPL, while the rest of his opponents were OMG, LNG, TES, and of course, V5. Scout and Hope have been great performers for EDG, but if iG performs then their scores could suffer this series. As for iG, we’ve mentioned before that TheShy performs best on adcs in the top lane like Vayne and Lucian. It wouldn’t be the most surprising thing in the world if they brought that out again for this matchup, so keep an eye out for that. Considering he is a bit cheaper than other tops, it might be a decent investment.  RooKie has had some consistent scores, although he usually isn’t top in kills. This is nothing new, but this time he is cheaper than Teacherma and Yagao, the mids for the other favored teams. Puff and Southwind are fairly consistent, but considering they are against Hope and Meiko, it becomes more uncertain. This is likely to be EDG’s strong point. In other words, if EDG has any Hope, it will be getting their bot lane ahead and keeping them strong.

EDG Top Picks: Scout, Hope, Meiko iG Top Picks: TheShy, RooKie, Puff, Southwind
