4.18.20 LOL LPL/LCK Slate

WE… come on. That was pretty pathetic. It’s like the LPL and LCK each have that one team that should be doing well in a number of games, but just doesn’t for who knows what reason. For LPL, it’s WE. For LCK, it’s AF. The other matches made more sense, although the scores weren’t exactly great. IG’s kills were incredibly spread out, Hope managed to go 6/2/3 when losing, and even JDG didn’t see really high scores (although things made more sense there, with Kanavi and Yagao as the stars of that series.) Overall things were a bit of a let down on this slate, so hopefully this next slate will look better, especially with LCK back in the mix.

This marks an historic day in LPL history. In their series against BLG, V5… MANAGED TO GET A BARON!!!! They still lost, but hey, baby steps. They’ll get there…. Maybe. Probably not. But we’ll be rooting for them every step of the way! We just won’t be betting on them.

SO. VG. Looking at V5’s past games, it’s never consistently one role farming all of the kills, seeing as the different teams incorporate different strategies and playstyles. As far as VG are concerned, Forge and iBOY are the best bets for kills, especially if Forge keeps to his latest champion pool ( a decent amount of Leblanc and Sylas.) Cube and Aix don’t look too bad either, but as we’ve come to expect, V5’s opponents are very expensive. They’re sure to do well, but stacking as many VG players as possible could mean sacrificing other spots which will likely hurt your lineup too much to make it worthwhile.

Our first LCK playoff game is sure to be interesting. KT have done very well for themselves recently, other than a recent loss to GenG. Even in that game, Sohwan managed to do very well on Jayce, at least before they subbed him out. Good call there. Who knows what led to that decision, but with it being the playoffs they are likely to give it their all. DWG won’t be an easy hurdle to overcome, but a KT victory is possible.

Sohwan had a phenomenal game playing as Jayce against GenG, but he hasn’t been too great otherwise, and Nuguri doesn’t look too bad in comparison.  Aiming has had KT’s strongest performances, with TusiN scoring high in the assist game. kurO has some decent games as well, but his picks recently have indicated he is more of a support.  ShowMaker has had some good performances as well, so this matchup should be very interesting to watch. If kurO continues his support streak and doesn’t give any ground to ShowMaker, Aiming could run away with this game. If ShowMaker gets enough attention from his team, however, things could go very poorly for his team. At the end of the day, the mid matchup should decide a lot, and KT’s lineup seems more solid when it comes to adapting to picks.

KT Top Picks: kurO, Aiming, TusiN DWG Top Picks: Nuguri, ShowMaker, Ghost

RW is definitely an interesting case as they’ve had some great games thanks in large part to their jungler Haro. However, even that wasn’t enough for them to stop JDG, one of the stronger teams in the LPL. Now they find themselves against FPX, a team that has had a solid winning streak (minus an upset by VG last week) for the past two months. Their lineup is very strong, so it will take more than one godlike jungler to take FPX down.

Haro is obviously fantastic, but Tian has had some excellent performances. Haro hasn’t always had the worst games when losing, but even if he is $1000 cheaper than Tian, he might be a waste of a pick if the team as a whole doesn’t surprise everyone. Crazy has had some decent performances, but a top lane focus could be present in this matchup given the strength of the junglers.  ZWuJi has been a strong carry in RW’s better games, so he is the other best pick for RW. It’s possible RW will try to focus on shutting down Lwx and Crisp early on, since a fed Haro and ZWuJi could end up devastating FPX. However, FPX do look stronger overall; upsets like this aren’t unheard of, but if you’re looking for the safest team, FPX have been far too dominant throughout this split.

FPX Top Picks: Tian, Doinb, Lwx, Crisp RW Top Picks: Haro, ZWuJi, Ley

SN broke a long losing streak earlier this week by defeating Vici Gaming 2-1 (as usual, not counting the V5 matchup.) That being said, RNG has not been looking too hot lately, so this is a potentially sketchy matchup. The series against DMO wasn’t exactly close, so RNG’s chances this series aren’t too hot, but losing to one weak team doesn’t mean they will lose to every weak team. Like we said, it’s a sketchy matchup.

xiaohu63.4%3.58.3

Ming64.3%3.51.1

If you want to invest in this series, Bin and SofM aren’t the worst picks; at the very least, you can save some of your money for the better damage dealing roles in other matchups. Bear in mind, however, Angel and especially huanfeng have had some great games as well; the risk comes from not knowing which team will have the edge here, but if SN takes it, these players could do very well. Meanwhile, xiaohu has had some impressive matches as well, although he had extremely little impact against DMO. Given that SN’s players are coming off of a victory against the team that upset FPX, they could keep that momentum going against RNG and pull off a good win.

SN Top Picks: Bin, SofM, huanfeng RNG Top Picks: Langx, xiaohu, Ming
