4.30.20 LOL EU Masters Slate

We have a similar situation for the EU Masters, with 3 separate slates for the games. Only this time, we’re dealing with different teams, so be sure to watch each game and adjust your lineups accordingly. After yesterday’s slate went, this is more important than ever; given RGO won the first 2 slates, and VGIA had trouble against LDLC in Slate 2, it didn’t make as much sense to go all in on VGIA against RGO. VGIA’s best performance was against DK, who played as expected, losing every game they played. We’ll look at the matchups here, so use that information, but don’t be afraid to go against the grain if the top teams don’t perform.

Given BTXL’s performances recently, there’s not much to say in their defense here.  Deadly managed a 4/0 score the last time they played GL, but the team as a whole didn’t perform too well, and their other games haven’t been great either. Odds are they’ll go through the slates just like DK, but be sure to keep an eye on them in the first slate; they might not perform well against GO regardless, but the third slate could show them more success. More likely, however, they’ll fall apart throughout the day..

Deadly’s Ziggs pick worked pretty well into the Senna/Tahm Kench lane, and he’s shown some signs of life, but the team as a whole still needs work. Phones, Rabble and Nite were all good picks the last time, and there isn’t much reason to think they won’t be again. Even if Deadly does well, Hjarnan and Visdom have had some unique bot lane picks. If things go well for BTXL here, then GL might be a poor choice for the next 2 slates, so be prepared to update your rosters.

This might be a bit more interesting. Even though GO looks the best going into these slates, VGIA were in a similar position and they lost 2 of their matches. The better teams aren’t always guaranteed to win, and YDN’s last game against GO saw some decent performances out of  YDN’s lineup, so this could go either way.

Gabbo, Tabasko, and Endz seem to be the stronger players on YDN, but they might not have what it takes here. Shemek has been an assist machine for GO recently, but the rest of the roster has done well for themselves on the scoreboard, and the team as a whole knows how to play. Mid lane might be a good point of focus for this game, as Phantomles isn’t the strongest mid laner we’ve seen, so Toucouille might have more room to breathe. Just remember, GO has the most expensive players in this slate, so be sure to manage your rosters. Their carries might serve you well here, unless there’s an upset, so for roles like top you might want to look elsewhere.

Interestingly enough, GL’s roster is more expensive than GO’s in this slate, even though GO are playing BTXL. If things go well for GO and poorly for BTXL in the first slate, then there might be some obvious choices, as GO’s players are bound to do well. As for this matchup, GL did manage to outperform YDN their first runthrough, which likely explains the expensive players. This may very well happen again, but you can’t be too sure. Just keep an eye on the first slate and make your moves accordingly.

Hjarnan/Visdom worked very well together against Endz/Cospect, so it’s possible we’ll see another great game out of him here. Every lane but mid ended up with decent KDAs; Nite had a lot of assists but only 1 kill, although he did play Lissandra, a mage meant to lock down the enemies. What’s interesting is that Endz had a decent game against GO, and did manage to take down BTXL, so it’s possible that the first GL/YDN game wasn’t a great indicator of their prowess. Definitely keep an open mind here, and pay attention to how the first 2 games of the day go.

Granted, BTXL did manage to keep the score from spiraling out of control against GO the last time, and the game ended with a roughly 4k gold differential. This matchup could shift greatly depending on the performances in Slate 1, so we’ll say it again: watch the first games. If GO choke tomorrow, a BTXL victory isn’t entirely out of reach here.

With the 3rd slate, watching the first 2 matchups will be crucial to how you formulate your lineups. At the time of writing this, YDN definitely looks good here, but that may or may not be the case come tomorrow. For some ungodly reason, Draftkings has made BTXL’s players the most expensive, so we might see a pricing change as we get closer to the 3rd slate. Just be on the lookout, but if BTXL turns into monsters, then maybe the pricing will actually make sense.

A quick note about Phantomles: his Zoe performance throughout the game wasn’t too impressive, which probably explains why he ended with 2 kills and 13 assists while the rest of the team did work. Unless we see something entirely different tomorrow, you might not want to expect too much out of him. It’s for this reason we haven’t included him as a pick, as there are definitely stronger mid laners.

Unless one of these teams falls apart completely throughout the day, then this matchup will be tough. GO are currently favored, and the gap in price between their players and GL’s roster could make a big difference in how your lineup is structured. Their recent game against GL was pretty heavily in their favor, with kills going 22/6. Unless GL falls apart, however, don’t count on a repeat, as these kind of games do happen occasionally.
