05.17.20 CS:GO ESL Main Slate

Yesterday was certainly a reminder that anything can happen as our narratives for nearly every series fell flat as star players disappointed and underdogs prevailed. We will keep this in mind looking to this new slate, featuring the CIS Grand Final. The main slate on each site features the 3 games of the day before the big one because Astralis and G2 are playing 5 maps, rather than 3. Good luck with this slate and let’s all look forward to a fun Grand Final afterwards, game on.

Draftkings’ scoring follows the chart shown below, with a focus on K/D and clutch plays. Rosters are set with a Captain position who receives 1.5x his points at 1.5x his salary, but beyond that it is positionless. This is important to understand because CS teams follow a composition of different roles such as IGL (In game leader), entry fragger, support, etc. With Draftkings making no distinction between players, it is left to you to decide which roles are most important within this scoring system and to take advantage of that. For several teams for example, their IGL is not often going to score highly as they may be less skilled at the game but are valuable in ways that Draftkings doesn’t record. With that in mind, we will jump into a quick look at the roles of key players, their key stats, and how their perceived performance should fare in accordance with their salary.

StatisticFantasy Points*Players drafted as Captain earn 1.5x fantasy point values

Kills 3Kills 2Rounds Won 1
Deaths -1.5Deaths -1Rounds Lost -.5
Assists 1.5Assists 1Match Won 10
Headshots .3Headshots .2Team Sweep 10
Sweep Bonus 22.5Sweep Bonus 15

Fanduel has 6 slots for a captain, 4 standard players, and a team. The captain position does not affect a player’s salary like it does on Draftkings. This is particularly advantageous for when you have an inkling that a superstar will put up a large performance but you don’t want to limit your options elsewhere. The team slot will be a lot of fun for those situations where you like a team to win but don’t like the fantasy prospects of any particular players so you can still get some exposure. We figure most users will try to pick the cheapest winning team because a lot of the stats you get points for are hard to predict, but a winning team should definitely fare better.

Our top plays are designed to show the most playable options on each team, factoring in performance and price. The top 2 plays on each team will be in our player pool and the third tier top plays are people we will sprinkle in a bit along with the core group. All of the statistics shown are for the last 3 months to see who has been performing well recently while still keeping a significant sample size.

Team Spirit6,600

This is the CIS Grand Final and both teams haver to be really pleased for making it this far. This will be a great competition, but Winstrike was swept last time against this Spirit team that has steamrolled anybody in their way. They should be able to win this again but a different map pick for Winstrike should hopefully result in a 2-1 series this time around. Mir is the go to guy for this team.

Winstrike has been playing great and nearly took map 2 against Spirit last time but we have to hope they try Train or Dust II this time around to steal away a map for this series. These guys are cheap on Fanduel and an upset could pay dividends on there in particular. These guys are risky for sure on DK with the higher prices.

This game is less meaningful than the first, except for the additional, points for Rio. This series is going to be closer than the betting odds suggest, and Hard Legion actually beat VP 2-1 a week ago. This should be an interesting series and we are looking forward to seeing how the teams approach the map pool this time around and don’t look at VP as the favorite here given their recent form.

Hard Legion 6,000

Hard Legion burned us yesterday against Winstriker and Forester had an abysmal series. We are looking for a healthy rebound from him today, as well as the rest of the team as they take on a familiar foe that they’ve already managed to put down once before. There is a lot of upside here at depressed prices, we’ll just have to see if they show up this time.

Ninjas In Pyjamas6,800

Our final game shows another gap in the betting odds but this series is the one that sincerely looks lopsided. NiP has looked fantastic in this tournament and their only losses have come from Vitality, FaZe, and Astralis…so who can fault them there? This is our “safest” team to target on the slate and even if they have more trouble than last time, we should be able to see solid score lines from 3 players.

Maka is the leader of this team and he has not been reliable as of late. As goes Maka, so goes this team and he’s really going to have to stand up for them here if they have a shot of even being relevant here. This is not a great team to target today outside of a contrarian lineup.
