5.29.20 LOL LPL/LCK Slate

All 4 teams in this group are solid, but there are weaknesses to expose. iG is one example, as they fell apart rather spectacularly during the playoffs. It’s possible they’ve gotten things under control, which people seem to be assuming as they are favored in a few matchups, but if not, they could be the DWG of this group (DWG had no business defeating T1 by the way.) The other LPL team looks incredibly strong, as JDG had solid showings during the split and took the championship for themselves in an incredible fashion. Both LCK teams are some of the strongest in the region, but it’s worth noting their playoffs performances against T1 were a little sad to watch. Still, don’t disregard them entirely.

GEN were one of the strongest teams in the LCK during the split, and they made it all the way to the finals, but some of their performances have been a little lacking. JDG, meanwhile, has been demolishing the opposition throughout the split and defeated TES to win the LPL championship. We’ll have to see how the champions do in this best of 1, especially if GEN’s new coach moves them in a different direction, but JDG is quite the obstacle to overcome.

JDG’s entire roster is formidable, so it’s difficult to choose exactly which picks to prioritize. Kanavi’s playoffs scores were pretty great, especially considering he was facing off against TES for most of the playoffs games. We likely won’t see him lead the team in kills against a team like GEN, but he is the most attractive jungler in the group. Zoom has been a strong edition as a player, but the most reliable performances for fantasy came out of Yagao and the bot lane, something that could be easily repeated. It also helps that those 3 players are slightly cheaper than iG’s roster in Slate 1, freeing up about $600 if you were planning on taking iG’s MID/ADC/SUP. GEN’s roster is no joke either, however, even if they fell apart against T1. A strong GEN roster is likely to include the same roles as JDG, but it just doesn’t seem as likely.

This is likely to be an interesting matchup. Despite iG’s woes during the playoffs, they are looking good here. DRX are one of the stronger LCK teams, so they can’t be discounted, but they’ve had some issues as well. It’s really just a matter of which team has recovered more during the break, especially since it’s a best of 1. Just be ready for anything.

iG’s solo lanes are formidable, but don’t always translate into great scores. Puff normally would be a safer bet, but in the face of Deft, that might get sketchy. Keep an eye out for TheShy here; Ning may end up giving him some special attention to shut down DRX’s chances early on. As for DRX, their picks look similar to those of the other LCK team with MID/ADC/SUP looking nice. Pyosik had a great split but suffered a great deal against T1, so he might bounce back here against iG and prove himself another excellent jungle choice. In a best of 1, it’s entirely possible.

The biggest issue with iG here: their costs. RooKie, Puff, and Southwind are all the most expensive, which is understandable but could lead to some poor lineups if they don’t perform. We’ve seen some sketchy plays made this tournament, so this could honestly be quite a mess.

This might change depending on how well these teams perform in the 1st slate, but GEN are the favorites for this matchup. Some individual players like Deft are fearsome, but it’s unclear how they will hold up as a team. Interestingly enough, DRX did manage to 2-0 GEN the last time they fought during the regular split, although GEN had some fairly sketchy strategies in that series. A DRX win isn’t out of the question (which would make for some contrarian lineups given the pricing) but it isn’t expected either. If you’re up during the games, consider changing lineups based on their performances in the other games…. Hopefully no one pulls a T1.

Not too much to add here, you can expect decent performances out of the same players. Since it’s a best of 1, there might be situations where you can include a few players from both of these teams in your lineup. It’s hard to say who exactly to go for, but if you want to go JDG heavy here then there are options for DRX and GEN.

Unless iG do a complete turn around and look amazing, there isn’t much to say about this matchup. JDG could end up losing to GEN and they would still likely be favored here, so JDG looks particularly great in this slate. We’ve already mentioned T1’s loss to DWG, but it would be surprising if JDG just casually throws this tournament away, even with the Summer Split not too far off.

We can’t really justify not including Zoom or Yagao in the top picks when JDG looks so great, but the slightly difficult matchups might give Kanavi and LokeN more breathing room to get kills. It depends on the playstyle, but Kanavi especially looks great here.

iG has more of a chance here than against JDG, but it still might not end too well. GEN are a solid team (assuming they haven’t grown complacent during the break) so we’re likely to have another close game here. If you’re using DK and and awake to change lineups, you might want to consider that for this 3rd slate. The initial games will tell you all you need to know and make this matchup more reasonable to predict.

One of iG’s greatest strengths against the LCK teams in this group is their top lane strength. If used properly, TheShy can draw a lot of bans and give iG a big edge in draft. He may even perform well in game even if targeted, so iG do have some more options. GEN’s roster is formidable in their own right, so this might be another match where you can split between the 2 teams.

Again, not much to say here. This is likely to be JDG’s easiest matchup of the day, so unless the other slates are just complete disasters, you’ll want them here.

Since there isn’t much to say about the team matchup, here’s a quick note about player lineups. Odds are you’ll want JDG for most if not all of the slates, even in a best of 1 situation. You can have up to 4 JDG picks, so if you go that route it’ll be very difficult to grab 3 of the next best team in the slate. This is where grabbing players from one specific matchup on both sides could work, as there are a few closer games in the series. One thing we know: any successful lineup is sure to include JDG.
