Yet another slate where things go generally as expected. There were contests with 300 or so entries winning 3rd prize, so that tells you just how the LPL went yesterday. If that doesn’t appeal to you (and it sure isn’t very exciting when you think about it) we have some more exciting matchups for our Sunday slate that aren’t nearly as likely to end up the same way.

SN(+111) V iG(-145) (5 AM EST)
|Avg. Game Length||33:05||30:09|
Given the way things have been going for iG over the past few weeks, it’s very tempting to give SN the edge here. iG definitely still have the potential to play well here, but SN haven’t exactly disappointed on all fronts, so beware the upset. Honestly, considering how iG seems to be falling apart, it might not even be a real upset if they were to lose here. They are sure to have better chances against SN than they did against WE, but there isn’t a whole lot of confidence in this team at the moment. Even if they were to take this series 2-0, they would still be a shadow of their former selves from the last split.
SN Top Picks:
As we mentioned in the last iG game, TheShy just isn’t worth picking anymore. We might see a few games out of him that are great, but there’s been absolutely no reason to suspect he’ll make a comeback just yet. It’s a decent rule of thumb at this point to grab his lane opponent, although that won’t always guarantee you points. The question remains if the rest of iG’s roster can overcome SN. Given the whole Puff communication controversy, it doesn’t seem as likely, but they had the same issues last split and won a number of games. Given everything, it’s definitely possible to see players like SofM and Angel carry the game. The SN bot lane could be another great investment as well, but things are definitely more up in the air this slate.
JDG(+120) V TES(-156) (7 AM EST)
|Avg. Game Length||32:44||32:44|
This is going to be the most interesting matchup of the split so far. Both teams from the Grand Finals of the LPL playoffs are going at it once more. JDG won the finals 3-2, but TES did get a shot at redemption at the MSC. With two phenomenal lineups, it’s sure to be quite the matchup. Given the pricing situation, it’ll be easier to build around JDG, and they honestly have a pretty good chance of taking this series. That’s the beauty of these kinds of matchups, especially with a game like SN/iG as the other series in the slate.
JDG Top Picks
A lot of fantastic picks here, but we’ll make a few notes about some of them. Kanavi is an incredible jungler but he hasn’t been the best performer since the end of the spring. That could always change here vs Karsa, so don’t rule him out right away, but it’s worth considering. Zoom/369 have great potential in a winning game, although you might want to consider saving top lane for a cheaper spot (if you like JDG, grabbing Zoom and some other key players won’t be too difficult, but it would be for TES.) MID/ADC/SUP is generally a good idea in the case of the winning team, so don’t rule out Yagao, but just remember how much of a god Knight is. As for bot lane, that’ll go either way, generally favored towards the winning team.
We’ve been wondering about the stacking potential in this matchup. It does seem tempting at times, but just because these teams are incredibly close in skill and are at the top of the LPL, don’t think they are more likely for incredibly fast paced, back and forth games. It’s always possible, especially if SN/iG is a major flop and the winners score low, so if you’re looking for a contrarian lineup this could be it. Just don’t be surprised if TES or JDG end up rolling over their opponent in a 2-0; this matchup might be hyped up, but it won’t exactly devastate the loser when we’re this early on in the split. Also, this is JackeyLove’s 1st game back since the MCS, as he was subbed out for physical issues for TES’s 1st match. This may or may not impact his gameplay, but it’s worth noting all the same.
