06.15.20 LOL LPL Slate

Yesterday’s slate promised to be interesting, and it sure was. As it turns out, both favored teams ended up winning, although who knows how iG managed to pull through. Props to TheShy for maintaining his mediocre performances even when iG went 2-0. TES managed to destroy JDG, which was anticipated but slightly surprising given how hard JDG lost. It seems they aren’t quite as strong as they were back in the spring, so we’ll have to look out for that.

At any rate, we have a more balanced slate for the 15th, so we’ll see if things will turn out as expected.

Matchup Analysis

This matchup should be pretty straightforward. BLG looks very unimpressive and there isn’t much to look forward to for them, while ES has much more potential. Their newest player seems to be one of the strongest, so there are a lot of good options on ES. It’s definitely possible BLG could surprise us with their 1st victory which could make for quite the contrarian lineup, but don’t anticipate them doing too well here.

There are a lot of phenomenal picks on ES, but we left out Wei as he is an expensive jungler and you might want to prioritize the other ES players. Not to mention the other slate holds beishang/Aix, so there are a lot of great options. The rest of ES’s picks are fantastic in this scenario, and make it a point not to rule out Fenfen just because he’s the newest member of the team. He has had some of the best performances on ES so far this split.

The biggest issue here is cost. ES is by far the most expensive team and roster, so it’s impossible to stack all 4 picks while grabbing VG or WE to fill the remaining positions. If you can grab Fenfen and Wink that would be great, but be prepared to split TOP/MID or ADC/SUP. Generally speaking, a successful ADC leads to a successful SUP.

Matchup Analysis

WE has the potential to score very well against teams like VG if they play seriously. We saw them running some serious team compositions against iG, this coming off the heels of their 1-2 defeat to SN. We don’t know if they’ll go back to experimenting now that they have a solid win under their belt, but honestly it would be a bit surprising if they decided to mess around here. A solid victory against VG would put them in a pretty good spot and prove to everyone they are serious contenders for Worlds. It’s not as in the bag as ES might seem, as you cannot rule out VG’s ability to surprise, but a serious WE is a sight to behold.

The jungle matchup is going to be interesting, and we’ll likely see the winning jungler have a nicely padded score. Beishang is definitely the superior jungler in this matchup, making him very attractive (especially as he is cheaper than Wei.) Morgan could be a great option, but during the games against iG where WE seemed intent on trying as hard as they could, he was thrown on Ornn. His scores were still fine as he racked up a few kills and a lot of assists, but it’s not guaranteed he’ll repeat that kind of success. Teacherma could work out nicely, but he’s been less reliable at times this split, and we might just see him on Galio once again. That’s what makes beishang a very attractive pick, as he’ll be a very influential damage dealing jungler, and the bot lane picks compliment this strategy very well.

iBOY is worth the pick in the case of VG winning, as usual, but you’ll also want to focus on Aix and Forge. Aix might not be as skilled as beishang but he’s sure to have an impact on the game if VG are to win, and Forge might be on a champion that can run wild while Teacherma plays a more supportive role. Going for VG here shouldn’t be considered madness, as WE are not certain to win, so don’t be too afraid to go against the grain. Just remember WE is a very strong team and has the chance to be dominant when they are victorious, so that could make for quite the lineup.
