7.28.20 MLB Main Slate

Yesterday was a crazy day! Batters were popping off everywhere and we saw Mike Trout, Joey Votto, and Yelich bat in the ninth inning with bases loaded and behind! Today should be a similarly impressive day for hitters with a lot of bad pitching going. This is not a slate for the faint of heart so keep that in mind. We are honestly targeting the Tiers contests on DK and the showdowns on FD that don’t require pitching. Good luck today and game on!

Cubs(-105) V Reds(-115) 6:40 EST

PitcherDK $FD $ERAWHIPL wOBAR wOBA
Alec Mills$7,500$6,3002.751.17.412.232
Tyler Mahle$6,700$7,2005.141.31.364.294

Alec Mills pitched decently last year in a limited sample but he did have issues with lefties. He does not have a lot of upside on this slate but he should be able to hold his own here. Votto can make sense as a one off.

Tyler Mahle was not supposed to be starting but injuries have forced him here and he appears healthy and ready to step in. His velocity has been up but he is still a mediocre righty. Baez and Almora have both hit him hard in the past and are top bats on an offense that has looked good.

Braves(+110) V (-130) Rays 6:40 EST

PitcherDK $FD $ERAWHIPL wOBAR wOBA
Kyle Wright$6,400$7,5008.691.88.423.385
Yonny Chirinos$8,500$7,4003.851.05.252.316

Kyle Wright was a top pitching prospect before he debuted last year and you can see based on his numbers that he disappointed. He has been experimenting with his grips to try to get better command of his stuff but this Rays offense popped off yesterday and will look to continue the momentum here. Brandon Lowe has been hot, look for him to continue his great start.

Yonny Chirinios has only thrown to live hitters once since spring training. He is a little behind most of the other starters and although he hit 62 pitches in a simulated game, this Braves offense is daunting and should be able to hit him out of the game.

Brewers(-160) V Pirates(+135) 7:05 EST

PitcherDK $FD $ERAWHIPL wOBAR wOBA
Josh Lindblom$5,100$6,1007.842.03.351.388
Derek Holland$6,100$6,4006.081.51.244.406

Josh Lindblom has spent the majority of his professional career in Korea where he was pretty effective. He had a fair number of strikeouts in an environment there that is much less strikeout prone than the US so we know he has that potential. The Pirates are not the scariest team to face in a first start and he’s cheap enough to give a look.

Derek Holland is fully stretched out and the Brewers have to be excited to know that. He is putrid against righties and there are enough in the lineup to take advantage of this over the hill bum. Braun, Hiura, Smoak, Cain, etc are all playable here.

Royals(+100) V Tigers (-110) 7:10 EST

PitcherDK $FD $ERAWHIPL wOBAR wOBA
Kyler Zimmer$6,100$5,50010.802.56.330.479

Behold Kyle Zimmer’s stats and join us for a laugh… The Tigers may be wimpy but they have all the opportunities in the world here to score some runs. Nico Goodrum has been off to a good start and is the guy to build around (we can’t believe we just said that).

The Tigers have not announced a starter yet, we will keep the Discord updated as we know more.

Mets(-120) V Red Sox(+104) 7:30 EST

PitcherDK $FD $ERAWHIPL wOBAR wOBA
David Peterson$7,000$5,5004.191.34
Matt Hall$4,900$5,9007.711.84.412.341

David Peterson is a left hander who has never pitched above AA and he’s facing the Red Sox….we know what to do! JD Martinez has to go off here after a few meager showings, right?

Matt Hall is a lefty making his first major league start. The Mets are a mediocre offense but they have a solid matchup here against a guy lacking in experience. Yoenis Cespedes needs to get back on track here and should be able to do something here.

Cardinals(+133) V Twins(-152) 8:10 EST

PitcherDK $FD $ERAWHIPL wOBAR wOBA
Carlos Matinez$8,800$7,1003.171.18.283.247
Homer Bailey$9,000$8,0004.571.32.277.338

Carlos Martinez is back in the rotation after serving as the closer last season. He always had the talent to start but after an injury, the Cardinals thought it was appropriate to ease him back in a bullpen role. He has great upside but he also is facing a potent offense. There is risk to playing him here but he is one of the more talented arms on the day.

Homer Bailey is the aptly named pitcher that DFS players love to pick on. He gets rocked by righties in particular and a bunch of bats in the Cardinals lineup are well acquainted with Homer and love to face him. DeJong, Goldschmidt, Carpenter, and Molina have all had great success in the past against him.

Diamondbacks (-105) V Rangers(-115) 9:05 EST

PitcherDK $FD $ERAWHIPL wOBAR wOBA
Merrill Kelly$10,000$7,8004.421.31.325.313
Kyle Gibson$9,700$8,2004.841.44.347.318

Merrill Kelly is a very okay pitcher, nothing too great or bad. Lefties hit him better and we always love targeting Joey Gallo against righties that make mistakes. Odor is a nice pair with him but they are pretty boom or bust.

Kyle Gibson was brought over from the Twins because he was somehow an improvement over their other options. He also struggles with lefties and this lineup has had limited experience against him. Kole Calhoun has hit him well and he can be a cheap one off or you can build around him.

Dodgers(-160) V Astros(+135) 9:10 EST

PitcherDK $FD $ERAWHIPL wOBAR wOBA
Walker Buehler$11,300$10,5003.261.04.263.277
Framber Valdez$7,800$7,0005.861.67.306.356

Walker Buehler is on a pitch limit, facing the Astros, and is the most expensive option of the day. He is a hard pass. The Astros have a lot of firepower but this is not the best matchup. They will likely see the bullpen for the majority of the game and will have some chances.

Framber Valdez sucked last year and the only positive he has here is that the Dodgers are stronger from the left side. Justin Turner, Kike Hernandez, AJ Pollock, etc are all in play and the Dodgers are stackable.

Rockies (+145) V Athletics(-170) 9:40 EST

PitcherDK $FD $ERAWHIPL wOBAR wOBA
Antonio Senzatela$6,600$6,5006.711.75.394.352
Daniel Mengden$7,400$6,8004.831.44.398.220

Antonio Senzatela is a joke, the Athletics are going to be feasting. Olson, Chapman, Laureano, and everyone else are all playable. Just look at his numbers…hahaha

Daniel Mengden continues a trend today of being a miserable pathetic pitcher. Rockies lefties have the platoon advantage. Blackmon and Dahl make for a nice combo.

Mariners(+160) V Angels(-190) 9:40 EST

PitcherDK $FD $ERAWHIPL wOBAR wOBA
Justus Sheffield$8,200$7,7005.501.72.359.380
Patrick Sandoval$6,600$5,6005.031.37.421.290

Justus Sheffield is a left handed dumpster facing an Angels lineup that is built around righties. Rendon is making his debut here from an oblique injury, adding another big bopper to the Angels’ arsenal.

Patrick Sandoval also gets railed by everyone, moreso by lefties, just like seemingly every other guy pitching today. Kyle Seager, Daniel Vogelbach, and Dee Gordon all have great potential here in another bloodbath.

Padres(-148) V Giants(+120) 9:45 EST

PitcherDK $FD $ERAWHIPL wOBAR wOBA
Zach Davies$8,000$5,8003.551.29.317.302
Jeff Samardzija$6,500$8,1003.521.11.314.263

Zach Davies is our top starter today. He is unreasonably cheap on both sites, is a solid pitcher, and has a great matchup here. He allows you to stack any offense you want on the slate and has a solid chance at being the top scorer.

Jeff Samardzija has been a solid pitcher for a while and is not anything special. The Padres are a solid offense this year and they have seen him a bit. Eric Hosmer has had some particular success against him. With so many other great spots today, we don’t see a reason to target here.
