08.05.20 MLB Main Slate

Happy hump day everyone. The $.05 and $.25 tourneys on FD have had good overlay recently and are a great way to practice making MLB lineups for cheap. We have a good mix of arms and bats here so play around a bit, try out stacking strats and feel free to chat in the discord about what has or has not been working for you! Good luck and game on.

Twins(-186) V Pirates(+160) 7:05 EST

Randy Dobnak$7,200$7,1001.591.13.183.346
Trevor Williams$5,900$6,2005.381.41.393.319

Randy Dobnak has done an excellent job of limiting runs so far in his young career but his strikeouts have not been stellar. He is facing his hometown Pirates and their lackluster offense which is a spot he should be able to keep rolling in and maybe we’ll see an extra tick in his velocity against his childhood team.

Trevor Williams sucks and the Twins might have the most complete lineup in baseball. They are one of the top stacking options of the day. Guys like Kepler, Polanco, and Rosario are fantastic options to start with.

Blue Jays(+120) V Braves (-141) 7:10 EST

Hyun Jin Ryu$9,500$8,4002.321.01.211.280
Sean Newcomb$6,000$5,8003.161.32.345.306

Hyun Jin Ryu has not been sharp so far in 2020, coming off a season where he was a Cy Young finalist in the NL. The good news here is that Freeman, Albies, and Matt Adams are all out here so he has an easier matchup to right the ship than we first thought. He is playable but there are guys with the same upside and less risk today.

Sean Newcomb has had short, ineffective starts so far. The Blue Jays should get opportunities for good looks off him and ended to get some runs on the board after a slow start. Teoscar Hernandez is a great starting point as one of their hot bats.

Reds(+110) V Indians(-127) 7:10 EST

Tejay Antone$4,000$5,5004.651.73
Mike Clevinger$9,200$9,6002.711.06.282.236

Tejay Antone is making his first major league start today after an effective showing in long relief already this year. He held the Cubs in check but starting a game and seeing the lineup multiple times is a different beast. Indians bats have potential here against the young righty but we have seen other young arms get off to fast starts.

Mike Clevinger should be a Cy Young candidate but a crappy outing against the Twins really took down those chances. The Reds are a far easier matchup and Clevinger has more upside than any other arm today, we just need him to have his command on point.

Cubs(-225) V Royals (+188) 8:05 EST

Yu Darvish$10,400$9,5003.981.10.320.266
Kris Bubic$6,400$5,6002.301.01

Yu Darvish looked excellent in his last outing against the Pirates, striking out 7 on 18 swings and misses. The Royals offense is on the same low level as the Pirates and he should be able to put up similar numbers with a great chance for a win as well.

Kris Bubic was okay in his debut, only allowing 3 runs but with barely any strikeouts. He is a lefty facing a team that is scary from the right side. We are in on the Cubs today and Baez is looking like a great starting point.

Brewers(-103) V White Sox(-115) 8:10 EST

Adrian Houser$8,100$6,1003.721.24.347.265
Dallas Keuchel$7,400$6,9003.751.37.268.339

Adrian Houser pitched well in an exhibition game with the White Sox and has otherwise started off the season in the same great form we saw last year. We are not high on White Sox bats here but their potential and Houser’s limited strikeouts so far are leaving him on the bench as well.

Dallas Keuchel has 3 strikeouts so far on the year and is entirely relying on generating weak contact to make his way through games. The Brewers will have plenty of chances to do damage here with so many balls in play.

Giants(+145) V Rockies(-167) 8:40 EST

Jon Gray$7,000$6,3003.841.35.345.302
Logan Webb$5,500$5,5005.221.46.302.380

Lol, stack both teams….it’s Coors and they aren’t good.

Rangers(+155) V Athletics(-180) 9:10 EST

Kyle Gibson$8,200$7,8004.841.44.347.318
Sean Manaea$8,600$6,8001.

Kyle Gibson is average at best, a loser at worst but irrelevant for fantasy in either way as he is strikeout challenged. A few Athletics have good numbers off him and should be able to flex a bit today. Laureano and Olson are a good starting point.

Sean Manaea has not looked good so far in 2020 and he should run into some trouble today. Elvis Andrus has great numbers off him and is an interesting one off at a position that’s usually tough toi target.

Astros(-175) V Diamondbacks(+145) 9:10 EST

Lance McCullers Jr.$8,300$8,1003.861.17.258.318
Robbie Ray$6,500$7,2004.341.34.272.337

McCullers has been getting strikeouts but the 7 walks already show a lack of control. With the winds blowing the way they are, his control issues can lead to a blowup inning or 2. Diamondbacks are in play, but maybe aren’t a stacking focus.

Robbie Ray is a lefty with a penchant for strikeouts but he is facing a strongly right handed team here. We also see ~11 MPH winds blowing out to the outfield and that’s another great sign for bats here. Altuve and Springer both have hit him well and are a nice combo to build around.

Dodgers(-125) V Padres(+108) 9:10 EST

Ross Stripling$7,800$8,7003.471.15.298.289
Garret Richards$6,200$7,0008.311.85.304.650

Stripling has been great for the Dodgers and has earned a longer leash than the other members of their staff. He has great numbers against righties which bodes well for this matchup. Wil Myers has hit him very well historically but we see no other blemishes.

Garret Richards is a staff favorite here and a certain MLB writer here may or may not have had him in a season long league every single time he was injured (nobody is salty, why would you say that?). He is a great pitcher whose only blemish has been his health and his arm hasn’t fallen off yet! He draws a really tough matchup with the Dodgers and we are staying away from him here, but not playing LAD bats really either.

Angels(-157) V Mariners(+135) 10:10 EST

Julio Teheran$7,500$7,4003.811.32.308.311
Marco Gonzales$6,800$7,4003.991.31.343.300

Julio Teheran is making his 2020 debut and should be on a strict pitch limit, he has no fantasy relevancy. He has largely fallen off after a great start to his career and we have to assume some rust will allow for early opportunities for guys like Kyle Lewis and Dee Gordon.

Marco Gonzalez has a great deal of experience with the Angel’s lineup and his most recent start was a good one. The addition of Rendon adds more intrigue here but Trout and Fletcher are the guys who have seen the ball really well off him. A mini stack of them makes sense but Marco is a solid pitcher.
